Registered Manager – Children’s Residential Home

Location: BD10

Salary: Neg DOEContract: Full-Time, Permanent

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and committed Registered Manager to lead a children’s residential home, ensuring the highest standards of care, safeguarding, and regulatory compliance.

This is a key leadership position where you will oversee the daily operations of the home, develop and support your staff team, and deliver high-quality, child-centred care that achieves positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day management of the home, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of children and young people
  • Maintain and regularly review the Statement of Purpose to reflect the ethos and aims of the service
  • Ensure full compliance with Children’s Homes Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards, including Ofsted notifications
  • Oversee care planning and delivery, ensuring plans are outcome-focused and tailored to individual needs
  • Manage and approve staff rotas in conjunction with the Deputy Manager
  • Lead on safer recruitment, staff retention, supervision, and performance management
  • Ensure staff adhere to policies, procedures, and safeguarding practices
  • Oversee quality assurance processes, including Regulation 44 visits, Regulation 45 reports, and Ofsted inspections
  • Proactively manage and resolve complaints and concerns
  • Manage budgets and resources effectively to ensure value for money
  • Develop strong multi-agency partnerships with social workers, families, and external professionals
  • Chair meetings and attend placement and management forums
  • Support staff in managing and de-escalating challenging behaviour
  • Drive continuous improvement through performance monitoring and reporting

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working with children and young people in a residential or similar setting (within the last 5 years)
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a senior role within a residential setting
  • Proven leadership experience, including staff supervision and development
  • Strong knowledge of Children’s Homes Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards
  • Excellent understanding of safeguarding policies and procedures
  • Experience working with children on the edge of care
  • Awareness of relevant research and best practice affecting children in care
  • Strong commitment to partnership working with external agencies
  • Experience in financial and resource management
  • Ability to lead in line with a service’s ethos and Statement of Purpose
  • Strong understanding of performance management and service improvement
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to lead, motivate and inspire teams
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage risk and make sound decisions
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise effectively
  • Competent in using ICT systems and reporting tools

  • Full UK driving licence
  • Ability to provide out-of-hours support

Qualifications

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management for Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards)
  • DipSW, CQSW, NVQ Level 4 or equivalent (desirable)
  • Must meet Ofsted requirements for a ‘Fit Person’
